Position Specific Description
We are looking for an innovative, collaborative and results-oriented attorney to join our federal regulatory affairs team, located in Washington, D.C. as a Senior FERC Counsel, who will represent the company before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on electric matters.
Responsibilities will include representing the corporation on a wide range of FERC regulatory matters important to both public utilities and competitive companies, including mergers and acquisitions, wholesale power and transmission tariff and rate matters, OATT issues, RTO market rules, and enforcement and compliance issues. Exposure to emerging issues such as storage policy and experience in natural gas matters would be beneficial.
The Senior FERC Counsel would work closely with business units on project development.
Additional responsibilities will include providing legal advice to management on complex matters, drafting and preparation of filings with FERC, managing outside FERC counsel and consultants, and coordinating and collaborating with other attorneys and business clients.
The Senior FERC Counsel incumbent should have litigation experience and experience in managing litigation and discovery matters.
The individual should have excellent presentation and writing skills, the ability to quickly master complex legal and regulatory issues, and to work effectively across business functions in a matrixed organization.
Role specific functions include:
Examine, interpret, and advise on FERC laws, rulings, regulations, orders, standards, and requirements
Review, analyze, and investigate legal implications with respect to business decisions and events
Provide leadership, strategic advice, business counseling, and expertise, particularly with respect to FERC, for internal legal resources and business partners to assist in addressing and solving legal, regulatory, and compliance issues
Identify regulatory or external customer/stakeholder issues, particularly with respect to FERC, and proactively develop positions in order to work with teams (including cross functional teams) to achieve desired results
Prepare tariff amendments, contracts, service agreements, testimony, briefs, arguments, pleadings and other legal documents
Represent company before state and federal agencies

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides legal advice and service on complex legal issues and examines facts and law to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits
- Represents the company in litigation, regulatory proceedings, government investigations, and legal transactions
- Ensures compliance with company Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and ensures reporting of potentially material legal issues to audit function and senior management
